Choose your language
Scripvio shows menus, buttons, and system messages in the language you choose. This guide explains how to change language, what changes (and what does not), and where to set the light / dark theme.
Seven available languages
Section titled “Seven available languages”The interface can be displayed in:
| Language | Label in the app |
|---|---|
| French | Français |
| English | English |
| Spanish | Español |
| Portuguese | Português |
| Russian | Русский |
| German | Deutsch |
| Italian | Italiano |
These languages cover Scripvio’s interface (tabs, forms, error messages, settings, etc.). They do not automatically translate text you write.
Language at sign-up vs account language
Section titled “Language at sign-up vs account language”| When | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Account creation | Scripvio stores your phone’s language at sign-up |
| After sign-in | You can change language anytime in Profile; the preference is saved on your account |
On a new device, after sign-in, the app applies your account language (and keeps it locally on that device).
Change language (step by step)
Section titled “Change language (step by step)”1. Open Profile
Section titled “1. Open Profile”- Sign in to Scripvio.
- From the Home tab, tap your avatar at the top left.
- The Profile screen opens (Your Scripvio account).
2. Open language settings
Section titled “2. Open language settings”Two ways in:
| Method | Action |
|---|---|
| Shortcut | Language icon at the top right of Profile (same screen as below) |
| Account menu row | Account section → App language — subtitle: Interface text and future emails |
3. Pick a language
Section titled “3. Pick a language”- You reach Choose language (page title: App language).
- Tap the language you want in the list (radio buttons).
- After saving, a confirmation appears: Language updated.
- The screen closes and you return to Profile; the UI is already in the new language.
Internet required
Section titled “Internet required”Changing account language goes through the server. If you are offline:
- language options are disabled;
- you see: Offline — profile edits are disabled.
What to do: turn on Wi‑Fi or mobile data, wait until the app is online, then change language.
What language changes — and what it does not
Section titled “What language changes — and what it does not”Changes immediately
Section titled “Changes immediately”| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Menus and tabs | Home, Library, Create, Search, Tracking |
| Buttons and forms | Sign-in, sign-up, note editor |
| System messages | Errors, confirmations, offline / sync banners |
| Settings | Profile, notifications, appearance |
| App-translated reference labels | Moods, event types, etc. (per screen) |
Does not change
Section titled “Does not change”| Area | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Your notes | Text stays as you wrote it |
| Your journal | Same — writing language unchanged |
| Custom titles | Anything you typed manually |
| Quoted Bible passages | Stay in the version / language chosen when added (Search follows UI language; your notes do not) |
Light, dark, or system theme
Section titled “Light, dark, or system theme”Language and appearance are separate settings in Profile:
| Profile row | Screen | Choices |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance — Light, dark, or follow system | Theme | Match system, Light, Dark |
The theme applies to the whole app (colors, backgrounds, cards). It is stored on the device; it does not change language.
Like language, appearance changes are blocked offline on the dedicated screen.
→ Language & appearance (theme details)
Multiple devices
Section titled “Multiple devices”| Situation | Language used |
|---|---|
| Phone A: you switch to Spanish | Account updated → Spanish UI on A |
| Phone B: you sign in later | After sync / opening Profile, account language (Spanish) applies |
| Device offline on first launch | UI may use the last local cached language until you are online |
Sign in online once on each device to align the preference.
Recommended next steps
Section titled “Recommended next steps”- Browse Home to see translated labels.
- Open Library and Create — menus should stay consistent.
- Adjust Appearance (theme) if needed for reading comfort.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”The app is in English but I speak French — why?
Your phone or account may be set to English. Change it via Profile → App language.
Can I use Russian for the UI but write notes in French?
Yes. The interface follows your choice; your content stays in your writing language.
Does the Bible display in the interface language?
The Search tab and version pickers follow the UI. The Bible text shown depends on the version you select (e.g. French or English translation), not only menu language.
Language options are greyed out.
You are probably offline. Go back online and try again.
Where are notification language settings?
Notification preferences are under Profile → Notifications (email alerts, daily verses, reminders). Email language generally follows your account language.
