Section titled “Text search”Shared behavior
Section titled “Shared behavior”| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Input | Free text with search icon |
| Update | After a short pause (~400 ms) — no need to press Enter |
| Clear | × icon when text is present — tooltip Clear search |
| Notes ↔ Journal | The same query stays active when switching segments (clear it if you mean a different search) |
Notes segment
Section titled “Notes segment”Placeholder: Search title, summary, speaker, or location
Search targets useful fields on the published version (title, global summary, speaker, location, per server index).
Journal segment
Section titled “Journal segment”Placeholder: Search the journal
Search targets indexed fields on published entries (title, body, etc. on the server).
Sort (Sort the list)
Section titled “Sort (Sort the list)”Sort icon right of search → dropdown. Sort applies to the current list (already filtered by search and favorites).
Shared options (Notes and Journal)
Section titled “Shared options (Notes and Journal)”| Option (app label) | Order |
|---|---|
| Updated: newest first | updated_at descending (common default) |
| Updated: oldest first | updated_at ascending |
| Created: newest first | created_at descending |
| Created: oldest first | created_at ascending |
| Title: A → Z | title ascending |
| Title: Z → A | title descending |
Journal only
Section titled “Journal only”| Option | Use |
|---|---|
| Entry date (newest) | Most recent entry day first |
| Entry date (oldest) | Chronological read of published journal |
For a personal journal, Entry date (oldest) follows day order; Updated: newest first shows what you changed last (e.g. after new version).
Filter chips (favorites)
Section titled “Filter chips (favorites)”Two chips under the toolbar:
| Chip | Typical label | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| All | All notes N | Shows full segment (published total); resets favorites filter |
| Favorites | Favorites only N | Starred items only |
Count N comes from server metadata (total / favorite). If Favorites only shows 0, you have no favorites or text search excludes everything.
You can toggle favorite from the list (star on card) or in read mode — filter updates on next load.
Event type filter (Notes only)
Section titled “Event type filter (Notes only)”Category icon (Filter by event type) — not on Journal.
| Icon state | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Muted | No event type filter |
| Accent color | A type is selected |
How to use
Section titled “How to use”- Tap the category icon.
- Event type sheet:
- Search for a type field;
- type list (service, study, etc.);
- Clear to remove filter.
- Tap a type → Notes list reloads.
Event type stacks with text search and Favorites only.
Combine search, sort, and filters
Section titled “Combine search, sort, and filters”Useful combinations:
| Goal | Settings |
|---|---|
| Latest favorite sermon | Notes · Favorites only · sort Updated: newest first |
| Service notes this year | Notes · search keyword · Event type = service |
| Last month’s journal | Journal · sort Entry date (oldest) · title keyword |
| Show everything again | All notes chip · Clear search · clear event type |
App flow: list is always published items from the API (search + favorites + type), then ordered by your sort choice.
Long lists: pagination and refresh
Section titled “Long lists: pagination and refresh”| Gesture | Effect |
|---|---|
| Pull down on list | Reloads first page |
| Scroll down | Loads next page (~10 items) near the end |
| Bottom spinner | Loading more rows |
If something new is missing after publish, pull to refresh or reopen Library.
No results or empty list
Section titled “No results or empty list”Nothing published yet (empty search, wide filters)
Section titled “Nothing published yet (empty search, wide filters)”| Segment | Message |
|---|---|
| Notes | No published notes yet + subtitle to Create and Publish |
| Journal | No published journal entries yet + same idea |
Search or filters too strict
Section titled “Search or filters too strict”Published Library shows an empty list (same area as above), without a dedicated No results panel on this screen.
| Action | Why |
|---|---|
| Clear search | Remove keywords |
| Tap All notes | Turn off Favorites only |
| Clear event type (notes) | Remove category filter |
| Broader search | Fewer or different words |
No results / Try other keywords… strings exist on other lists (e.g. drafts under Create); same fix: clear and retry.
Offline / sync banner
Section titled “Offline / sync banner”A compact strip may appear under the status bar on Library screens (notes shell):
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No connection. Your changes are saved on this device… | Offline — list may be cached |
| Some changes are waiting to sync… | Pending sync |
| Syncing with the server… | Sync in progress |
| Sync failed… | Automatic retry expected |
| Library situation | Behavior |
|---|---|
| First load with no network | Could not load — Check your connection and try again. + Retry |
| Favorite offline | May fail — Could not update favorite. |
| Search / sort | Usually need server for up-to-date published list |
→ Sync
Not filterable here
Section titled “Not filterable here”| Filter | Published Library | Instead |
|---|---|---|
| Drafts | No | Create |
| Untitled | No | Create (drafts) |
| Journal mood / tags | No | Open entry to see chips |
| Published only | Always implicit | — |
Does search include note section bodies?
Mostly title, summary, speaker, and location; exact index is server-side. For a line inside a section, try a title or global summary keyword.
Why does Journal show “All notes” on chips?
Shared label; the count matches the active segment (journal on Journal).
Does sort change how many results?
No — only order of already filtered rows.
Can I save a search?
No — query is temporary until cleared or app restart.
